Profound Learning Community (PLCommunity)

Learning Communities

The PLCommunity is a complete virtual environment were people meet with instructors, mentors and other members of the community. People study their lessons, participate in synchronous and asynchronous discussions, share articles and web sites, and create personal blogs on assigned topics from the instructor.

A unique aspect of the PLCommunity is that everything from discussion topics to project assignments can be created by instructional designers and then tailored by the instructor. This approach allows the instructor to easily recreate the learning experience with minimal effort whenever the course is deployed.

The PLCommunity is designed to scale to handle on-going learning, such as training in best practices, where the number of discussions, articles and referenced web-sites becomes quite large. A familiar tagging mechanism is used to make it easy for people to be effective, as the number of knowledge assets in the community grow.

Communities of Practice

PLCommunity provides tools for community members to quickly capture, share, review and revise best practice information. This best practice information is then harvested to create best practice lessons. The harvesting process uses best practice standard templates and style sheets to create a uniform format, look and feel to these lessons. Once a collection of best practice lessons have been created, they can easily be merged to create more comprehensive best practice training courses that can be used to train new members of the team.

Because the best practice team maintains their courses, these courses can easily be updated as best practice refinements are identified. This ability to capture, aggregate and refine best practice training provides organizations with the ability to rapidly adapt their business processes to changes in their business or competitors.
