21st Century Vision
|
PLS is developing solutions that will move learning into the 21st century by transforming the mass production assembly line to a more individualized model based on mass customization. Many of our current teaching practices are good, but within a mass production model cannot produce the desired outcomes we know are possible. What if subject and skill mastery determined promotion rather than time, or completion of the school year. Mass customization will require whole new structures that will challenge the existing structures, raising many questions such as: how does one manage the learning? how do you know if someone has truly mastered a unit of study? what roles will teachers and students play? PLS, in conjunction with its strategic partners, is committed to developing solutions that will move this vision forward. |

Eliminate Gaps in Learning
"The school system that can find a way to eliminate gaps in student learning will revolutionize education" Tom Rudmik, September 2002
One of the great challenges educators face is that students have gaps in their learning: some things they get, some things they don't, and most things that they do get they forget; this is different with every student. What if it were possible to diagnose gaps in learning and what if technologies were used to deliver customized learning on an individualized basis. This is the future. Currently, PLS is engaging in field studies in partnership with a leading adaptive assessment organization to prove that elimination of gaps and mass customization of learning will truly be possible.
Best Practice Capture and Sharing - Group Brilliance
The brilliance of a group should exceed that of the individual, which unfortunately is seldom the case. The PLSystem can capture teaching best practices as well as disseminating those practices. By embedding these practices into the PLSystems's patented AKR, the transfer of knowledge is ensured - a remarkable result that clearly sets PLS apart from others. This coupled with PLSystem's® accountability feature, promotes best practices knowledge into a real classroom experience.
Communities of Practice
The PLSystem empowers teachers at a school, district, state or national level to share knowledge within communities of practice. Intuitive, super simple knowledge capture tools enable every knowledge worker to create and deliver knowledge objects or assets (intellectual property) such as teaching and administrative best practices. What's unique is that the originator of these knowledge assets can be at multiple levels of recursion. A repository of best practices can be developed to which teachers, district officials, as well as outside experts may contribute.
The power of this model is enormous. It recognizes that a system's brilliance is found in individuals that make up the system. Tapping into the brilliance of each teacher and transferring that brilliance to others will massively increase the overall brilliance of the school system. The PLSystem ensures that this brilliance is disseminated and truly transferred to the end user in measurable ways.
